Paula Hitler, and I'm a wanted man, no time to talk
Okay, today is a lovely lazy day, not only have a slept in, I have also taken a nap. Plus, I have had pizza for dinner. And, spent some quality time at the Fred Meyer shopping with my beautiful, singular, bright, intelligent 10 year old daughter, Allie. She cracked open the piggy bank deciding it was time to add to her already extensive collection of "Bratz dolls" - for those of you who are unfamiliar, Bratz dolls are kind of a freakish looking barbie- huge heads with big eyes, huge lips and barely there noses- they are supposed to be "hip" and "urban" so they trowl on the make up and they dress them like a Britney Spears video. But, by far the most disturbing thing about them is that they have NO FEET, yes they are cut off at the ankle! This is so you can pop on their huge chunky style shoes. My husband, after getting over the initial shock "Freaky, these dolls have no feet" now teases Allie about her foot-less dolls. Some of the Bratz she has are the "prom Bratz" so my husband says to her, "Aww...that's so nice that the land-mine victims are going the prom, but won't it be hard for them to dance?" to which Allie replies "Shut up"
Well, today was her lucky day, for the Bratz dolls were on sale for $9.99! (original price $24.99) she settled on two dolls one boy and one girl, both are the 1970s themed dolls. They come in excellent '70s garb and come also with a CD of great '70s hits. My daughter popped in the CD in and was lovin' the 70s tunes. I was up cruising the internet to hear her singing out boldly, loudly to the BeeGee's song "Stayin' Alive" - I did love her first line, "You can tell by the way I do my walk, I'm wanted man, no time to talk..." and she sang the chorus very well. "ah, ah, ah, ah stayin' alive!" It seems like kind of a back to the 70s memories week for me, I remember that soundtrack. My mom had it on vinyl and 8 track...
The other thing I had the chance to do today was read a little further in my book "The rise of the third reich" about how Germany came to be under Hitler. As a college history major, I thought I knew a fair amount about Hitler, but I read something I didn't know before. Hitler had a little sister named Paula. I don't have an older brother, but I know plenty of people who have shared "my big brother is real jerk" stories...but holy crap! nobody has a thing on poor Paula...and whatever happened to her? what did she think of her brother? was she as hateful as he was? I think I'll have to do a little research. The book is great and I will probably write a review.
But for now, I must eat some more pizza and admire the fabulous 70s styles of the Bratz dolls...
