Snazzy update

Hey everyone- yes its me! I just decided to snazzify my blog as it has been the same for sometime now.

Updates: I will post some pictures soon! We are more "moved in" to the new place and lovin' it. We are not completely moved in, but we are not scavenging the garage for life's necessities like feral beasts.

J. is recovering nicely. He is mobile and taking much less vicodin- which is great, because on the vicodin he didn't talk much, and was sort of listless- I really missed his usual personality. Now he's back to calling George W. Bush a "jackass" whenever he is on the teevee, and making funny comments about life in general.

Allie- beautiful and doing very well. She's having a hard time powering through these last 6 weeks of homework and school. She speaks so longingly of summer...

Me- work is fine. I'm walking more, and I lost 4lbs in April (woohoo!) I'm a little tired and burned out from all the activity the last month. Things can stop "happening" for a while.

Kittycito- Loves the new place. Plenty of boxes and two levels of stairs to scramble up wildly for no reason and then suddenly pause to lick himself. Allie has trained him to "fetch" like a dog with this pink piece of material he carries around in his mouth.

Stop the spinny ride that is my life...

Okay, I'm ready for my life to settle down...enough changing jobs, working on weekends, moving, trips to Idaho, and...emergency surgery for my husband J all in the span of 3 weeks!!

Yes- J. had a very bizarre accident and had to go in for emergency surgery last week. He hit his groin on a table, causing an internal rupture that was infected with bacteria that then developed into an abcess that needed to be drained. Given the sensitive area of the injury it was scheduled as a day surgery rather than being drained and taken care of at the urgent care.

Luckily, J. is okay now after many days of rest and much vicodin. I have to admit hanging out in the hospital waiting for J. to come out of surgery was rather stressful. I'm not a huge hospital fan, nor was I relaxed and as confident as J. (could the pain-killing drugs have anything to do with it?) I hate, hate, hate seeing people in pain, being around people in pain, sensing the stress and tension in the family waiting room as people read, knitted, typed away on their laptops to pass the time. Seeing people in pain, emotional pain also- causes my heart to pound hard against my chest, my sense of anxiety and tension to rise. I would be a horrible medical professional.

Otherwise, J. is fine- he is getting cabin fever after staying home so many days to recover. I, on the other hand, I have not had a day where I wasn't headed off to do something, so I have yet to spend an entire day in the new house- and it shows- we are in survival mode. Its a little like camping, although sometimes we are forced to scavenge in the garage or in open boxes for various things.

I'm back to walking and managed an 8.5 mile walk with minimal pain! Plus its spring- the days are longer and greener. Yay!

box avoidance

In an attempt to flee the land of boxes that is my home, when I wasn't driving to Idaho...I saw "Premonition" with Sandra Bullock. I have to say I was disappointed. It was one of those quasi-time travel flicks, where you go back and forth in time armed with new knowledge each time of the impending doom that awaits your family, therefore you try to change it, and tragically, another god-awful thing happens.

Anyway, poor Sandra is in a time travel quandry re-living and re-hashing her husband's death and funeral. The thing that really bothered me was that she altered the course of events in one of the sequences that would have resulted in her daughter not being horribly injured, yet as that scenario played out the daughter was horribly injured. Then, I thought it would be a big message about how you should learn to love and appreciate your spouse when they're around, and treasure everyday, yada, yada...this was a little ham-handed with a priest saying "Every day you're alive is a gift"- To which I would have replied- "Yea, that's great and all, but I'm re-living every day the most tragic days of life where my husband dies and my daughter's horribly injured, so the whole 'gift of life' thing is a bit lost on me these days!" However, Sandra just nods knowingly. Somehow Sandra slips out of having to re-live these horrible events, but of course the movie doesn't tell you how.

The other thing that was terribly annoying about this movie outing was the two women who insisted on supplying running commentary the whole way through the movie!

A sample:

"Sandra Bullock looks good- she's over 40"

"No way! she's not 40"

When the husband is about to get smashed into by a tanker truck the women screamed

"GET OUT OF THE CAR! GET OUT OF THE CAR!"

Also, they gave Sandra's character advice

"You better watch out for that skinny 'ho- she's after your man"

"Your husband's hot! Don't let him go on that trip"

They were very sad for Sandra- and they concluded that it wasn't her best film, but the dude who plays her unfortunate husband is super hot, plus she looks "damn good" for her age.
